Tape measure
Drill
Wood glue
Clamps

Materials required
Plywood
Edge banding
Screws
Finishing Nails

Step 1. Measure and Design the Cabinet

Use a measure tape to determine the size of the area in which you are going to install the cabinet. Also have an idea what kind of items you are going to put there. Design the cabinet on paper. This gives you good ideas what the limits are and how much plywood you need buy from the store. Plywood is great choice for kitchen cabinets. It is solid, stable and ensures durability over time. You can also choose other wooden board, just make sure you sand surface of the board before you put them together. Then take the measure and purchase the type of wood you want to use from store. Seek advice from experts in the hardware store, tell them what project you are doing and theyll recommend what kind of hardware youll need, such as what kind of screws are best for you.

Step 2: Cut the boardUse the table saw and cut out the pieces for the cabinet, this includes the side, top, back and bottom pieces. Sand all the rough wooden surfaces and use edge banding to cover the edges. You may also need to cut out one or two studs pieces to be installed in the place where your cabinet goes.

Step 3: Assembly the CabinetUse drill to make holes and fasten all pieces together using screws. You can also use wood glue to reinforce the cabinet. Use the clamps to hold the frame together while the glue dries. Put in the shelves using the drill, screws and nails. Use the table saw and cut out the doors. When making the doors, make it at a length so that it overhangs the front frame of the cabinet. Sand the doors to smooth the edge and surface. Install the hinges and attach the doors to the cabinet. Put on the knobs or handles into the cabinet doors. Then your job is done.Tips and WarningHave a good measure and design is the most important for building cabinets by yourself.

How To Build A Bed Frame Woodworking Tips and Ideas for building a Bed Frame

I have never thought about building a bed frame by myself until I helped one of my friends to actually build one. Its actually quite simple and straight forward as long as you understand what a bed frame consists of and how exactly they are put together.

Click Here to download 14,000 Woodworking Plans with step-by-step instructions, photos and diagrams to make every project laughably easy...

We decided to use construction lumber as it is quite cheap, however some construction boards come as a little twisted, you do need to be careful when picking up the board. You may need a planer if you are making a bed out of some recycled lumber.

So first all of, consider the hardware ad materials you will be using when building a bed - the most common materials for building a bed are the following:

Tools & Hardware
Hammer
Table Saw
Belt Sander or sandpaper
Tape Measure
Power Drill
Gripping Clamp
Screws
Wood Glue
Dowel
Bed Rail hooks

Step 1. Design the bed frame
The overall design of bed consists of a headboard and footboard, side rails and bed posts. The side rails are connected with the headboard and footboard using bed rail hooks (some people also call it bed rail clips or bed rail hangers). Posts are glued and joined to the headboard and footboard. There are many options with regards to what type of lumber to buy. Typically you can choose 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 for the headboard and footboard, 2 x 8 for the side rails, and 2 x 2 or 2 x 3 for the posts. Ask the expert in the store to see what they recommend for the project you are working on.

Step 2: Create the headboard and footboard
Cut the 2 x 4 (or 2 x 6) at the length in accordance to your bed design (queen or king). If you have a bandsaw, you may considering adding a little curve on top of the headboard which would look much nicer. The next step is to join the posts to the headboard and footboard. Clamp the posts and the the board and drill holes through, this way the holes on the two parts will be lined up. Attach the posts to the headboard and footboard with wood glue and dowels. The footboard is essentially the same, but shorter.

Step 3: Create the bed rails
Each bed rail is a 2x8 x 8 piece of lumber. Attach a 2x2 to the inside edge of the rail to create the ledge which will support the slats as well as the mattress.

Step 4: Assembly the parts

Bed rail hooks are used to attach the side rails and the headboard and footboard. Place the slats on top of the sledge inside the side rails. To prevent the slats from sliding around, glue a small block every six inches on each side of the ledge. Sand any rough edge and surface to make the bed smooth.

Tips
This bed plan can be modified to any size or height you want, isnt it?

How To Build A Bench Woodworking DIY Ideas and Tips for building a Table

Although it looks difficult, trying to build a bench is a easy task for most people. It not only saves you money, but you will get a lot of fun from doing it. I recently built a very simply three-piece garden bench by myself and here are the steps.

Click Here to download 14,000 Woodworking Plans with step-by-step instructions, photos and diagrams to make every project laughably easy...

Step 1. Determine measures for the bench.

Make a design sketch of the bench. This is the most important steps for building a bench. Figure out the height, depth and width of the bench before you start. Decide what you’re going to use it for and how many people are going to sit there. Based on these measurements, it will be easier for you to come with a design and concept for your bench.

Consider the hardware and materials you will be using when building the bench– the most common materials on how to build a bank are the following:

Tools Table Saw
Miter Saw
Jig Saw
Hammer
PencilBelt
Sander or sandpaper
Tape Measure
Power Drill
Router with Round-over Bit
Bar Clamps
Gripping Clamp

Materials:
4 x 4 x 6 ft wood stock
2 x 6 x 6 ft wood stock
Several nails
ScrewsGlue

Step 2: Create the Leg Frames
Cut the 4 x 4 stocks to create each leg. The leg frame parts are notched to fit with each other. Cut two 11-inch short rail where the front and back legs will be resting against. Using glue and pocket hole screws, assemble two legs and short rail. After this you will have two leg frames for the bench.

Step 3: Create the Seat
Use a circular saw to cut three 2x6 boards to lengths of 5 feet-6 inches. The seat will extend over the sides by a few inches. Cut two 2x6 boards to lengths of 10 inches. These are used to hold the seat boards together. Lay the boards side by side. Position the 10-inch cleats across the boards near the ends. Secure the seat with 3-inch galvanized deck screws.

Step 4: Assembly the parts
Sand all of your pieces before assembling. Attach leg frames with the seat, this can be easily done using glue and screws. A simple bracket brace along the joint between the legs and seat will make the bench sturdy.

Tips and Warnings
Benches come in different varieties. The most common ones consists of just the four legs and a rectangle seat. Others come with arm rests, back rests and other designs. The basic building principles are the same though.
Make sure you protect your eyes from splinters and saw dust, also take care not to cut your hands when cutting wood.

The Best Wood Working Projects Start With a Plan

Not long ago I was a complete novice when it came to wood working.
What I quickly learned is that wood working projects are easy if you
start with a complete plan. It can often be harder to find a good plan
than it is to actually build an item.

Getting Started in Woodworking is Easy When You Have a Plan. I can
handle all the basic wood working tools, it’s just that I can’t
visualize and plan out my next great project. Sure, there are plenty
of things I want to build – a bench, sheds, desks and even toys. I
just didn’t know how to plan and design my project. My first project
was a storage bin. I ran to the hardware store and picked up the wood
and nails. Only to return later to buy more wood because I had made
incorrect cuts. It got even worse when I later discovered I was using
nails that were too long, I didn’t notice the nail went all the way
through the wood and I ended up with a nasty cut on my hand.

Not All Plans Are Created Equal. So I went on the internet looking for
some woodworking project plans that I could download. I found one site
that had several great plans. So I picked a plan for an awesome
looking magazine holder. Clicked the download button and found out
that this site that offers all these “free” plans wanted me to pay $18
for the project plan.

After more searching I found a site that really was offering free
plans but they lacked photos and detailed sketches. Let me tell you
that these are a must if you are looking to build anything,

Perfect Woodworking Plan: So what should you look for in a Wood
working project plan? Obviously easy to read sketches and photos of
the completed project are a huge requirement. A detailed material list
and a listing of the required tools should be included. It is also a
big help when the plan gives you the estimated time to complete the
project and offers some idea of the skill level required for the
project.

Built Ins Makeover Using a Paint Sprayer

Who wants to paint a ton of built-ins with a roller and brush?  It's doable but definitely not the smartest, fastest or most professional looking approach.

The last few months I've been making over our upstairs walk-in closet and the most drastic change is painting the built-ins.  I used the Homeright Finish Max sprayer and the results are amazing!

To be perfectly honest I've never painted with a sprayer before.  The thought of cleaning all the parts was enough to turn me off UNTIL I realized how much square footage there was to paint in all these built-ins.  (There are actually 3 portions of built-ins, the above picture only shows one wall and a small portion of another on the left.)

The smarter person in me decided it was time to give the sprayer a try.

A beachy evening party

A sunny and warm Friday evening in August calls for some sand, a book, a bottle (or two) of wine, and lots of laughter. We kept it simple with a few necessities, including a plush quilt, a couple of beach chairs, some sweet beats, some candles, some close friends, and a killer view. A quick run to the nearby clam shack provided a dinner of lobster rolls, fried clams, and steamers. Bliss.

How To Build A Table Woodworking DIY Ideas and Tips for building a Table

Most importantly building your own table is a very rewarding process. You dont need workshop full of tools to build a wooden table, all you need is a circular saw, a drill, two bar clamps and a few sand papers. In this article, I will explain the steps and tips for building a table in your own workshop.

Materials:

2x4 wood stocks
Plywood
Dowels
Wood Glue
Round wood screws
Sandpaper
Planning:

Design of your table on paper.
Get some rough idea about the dimensions of the table, make sure it fits the area where you will place the table. Consider the type of wood you are going to purchase. It is best to buy pre-surfaced wood for the table top which is smooth, or you can consider some less expensive wood, which may need to be planed using a joiner. For the legs and rails, two-by-four lumber should do the job. Make the purchase of the wood stock according to the the dimensions of your design and you may want to buy one or two extra.

Preparing the legs and rails
The rails are the part that attaches to the table top and connects to the legs. Cut two 2x4 of wood for the front rails and two for the side rails. They can have the same length if you are building a square table. These pieces are glued and doweled together. Next, cut four legs and attach the table legs to the rail. It is best to use dowels instead of screws as it would ensure the stability of the table. To ensure the holes line up, its best to clamp the two pieces together, so that you can drill holes through both parts at once.

Create the Table Top
There are many ways to create the table top. One of the easiest ways is to purchase a piece of plywood and cut to the dimension according to your specification. Or you can assembly a table top using several individual pieces of wood and glue them together side by side.

Note: the edge need to be smooth and square before you start gluing.

Assembly
Drill two 3/8" pocket holes on inner side of the rails so that screws can be screwed through from the side and into the table top. Brad-point bit is used to drill pilot holes. Sand the table top to give it smooth finishing. Secure the table top with the rails using wood screws. There you go!

Take a walk to find inspiration

Some of my favorite (and most popular) decorations come simply from stepping outside. I love taking a walk in the woods to find inspiration for my events, and you really cant go wrong with following natures design lead. My favorite time of year is fall (and you cant beat fall in New England!) and a venture outside last fall prompted some crazy creative scheming about my own wedding. More on that later, but below are snapshots of what inspired the decorations for my rustic Maine wedding.

1 accessory to being organized a killer bag

Planning events means that I usually end up having a lot to carry. Ive got a binder for everything and will often carry three or four along to visit a client. I also have other necessities that have to trek everywhere with me, so I need a reliable and durable bag, but I dont just want any bag. I have a bit of an obsession with bags to begin with, and I often gravitate toward styles that I cant afford. But, I finally caved and bought one that Id been stalking for a while, the La Tropézienne by Clare Vivier. Ive had this bag for a little over a year now and Im still using it as my everyday bag. Its roomy and gorgeous and as it gets more use, it gets more gorgeous. Now Im obsessing about her oversize clutch.

S is for Spilling the Beans Q A

Something out of the ordinary today - I was asked by Porch to do a question and answer style post.  And since I rarely talk personal here's your chance to get to know a little more about me!

If you haven't heard of Porch yet they are an online network where you can find the right professionals with referrals for all your home projects.  It's a grand home improvement network for those projects that are beyond DIY, Porch helps you find reputable peeps.

For this Q & A I'll be answering a few questions here and then you'll want to click over to the Porch Advice Blog to read the other juicy half.

What's your DIY weapon of choice?

Sliding compound miter circular saw

My real weapon of choice is my hands, they're invaluable to me so don't drill through your pointer finger ever!  It really hurts and the nerve took 2 months to come back.

Words of wisdom for someone remodeling on a budget?

Use what you have first and foremost.  I always shop my house first including my basement which is full of cast offs and wood scraps.  Lots of things can be transformed into something else with a little imagination, maybe rebuild it or add some paint.  I like to pretend there is a zero budget, collect everything I have and can use for the remodel and then make the purchases that I really want.

What's the weirdest thing you've collected?

Railing spindles.

No project plans yet but I'm holding on to them because they're so skinny, twisty and spindly.
